Go Rural!
RWAV is inviting 20 GP Registrars and their partners to experience the career and lifestyle advantages that country Victoria has to offer. The weekend is a great opportunity to see the delights of rural communities in Victoria and to hear first-hand the experiences of GPs who are enjoying fulfilled lives as a country doctor. Go Rural is a federally funded campaign to encourage doctors and medical students to consider a career or locum work in rural practice. The weekend will commence with a central Melbourne pick up on Saturday morning and includes luxury coach travel, all meals, entry fees to the Otway Fly, overnight accommodation and dinner in Warrnambool, lunch at the award winning Royal Mail Hotel at Dunkeld and return to Melbourne on Sunday evening. This offer is available to GP Registrars who are currently enrolled in the general pathway of the Australian General Practice Training Program. Dr Edward Vergara appointed GPRA Chair
VMA congratulates Dr Edward Vergara who has been appointed the General Practice Registrar Association Chair for 2012. Ed recently completed his GP training at VMA and is currently working at Westcare Medical Centre in Melton. He is passionate about advocacy, and has a deep commitment to registrar issues through his role as a registrar liaison officer at VMA. Completing two years of his training at an academic post at the University of Melbourne, Ed also has a strong interest in incorporating an academic component to his clinical practice. During this time he took on both researcher and lecturer roles. He is currently undertaking a Masters of Philosophy (by research) at the University of Melbourne. Ed will continue as a VMA Board Member.

Congratulations to Dr Suzanne Ashdown on her RACGP Examination Results
VMA congratulates Dr Suzanne Ashdown who was awarded the Richard Clinton Gutch Medal in the 2011.2 RACGP Fellowship Examination. She was the GP candidate who received the highest pass score in each examination on the first attempt in the Victorian faculty.
