Medical educator position description
The answer to the question of where am I
now really depends on what day of the week it is!
Since graduating from VMA in 2009 General Practice has been very
enjoyable for me and I have not had any regrets so far. I have begun to do
more academic work and sexual health medicine. For my academic work, I have started a Masters of Medicine to do research
on contraception use by Australian women. I have also enjoyed examining medical
students at Melbourne University as well as being an examiner for the RACGP and
AMC. For my sexual health medicine, I am working in a clinic with a high case
load for HIV and sexual health issues. I am also helping a faith-based
Non-Government Organization in China combat the problems of HIV/AIDS. This has
kept my general practice varied and interesting as I continue to have
opportunities to build up skills in areas that I am interested in. Full Text »

I am currently working in a group practice in Coburg with about six full time equivalents, although the majority of GPs are part-timers like myself. The practice charges a co-payment that allows us to see 3 - 4 patients per hour, which still doesn't feel like enough time! One of the most positive aspects about my workplace is supportive and trustworthy GP colleagues and an excellent mutual respect between secretarial, nursing and medical staff. Full Text »

After sitting my GP exams in 2008, my husband,
Ken, and I moved to Boston, USA so that Ken could do some postdoctoral research.Having developed a deep interest in
palliative care during my training, I started working as a palliative care
research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). My main project was
developing computer-based screening tools to aid in the real time
identification of inpatients suitable for palliative care consultation.
